We kicked off our February meeting with amazing food and a festive Valentine’s vibe, surrounded by beautiful decorations and vibrant flowers.

Debbi Novotny presented Hydroponics to the club
Hydroponics is growing plants in a soilless medium. Here are the two methods she discussed:
Offgrid method
- Supplies can be purchased at Milehigrow located near Alameda and Harlan in Denver. Call to check availability 303-936-4769.
- 3 gallon bucket with indented lid
- Rockwool (wet soak)
- Clay pebbles
- Setting up:
- Fill bucket with hydroponic growing solution water to the bottom of the indented pot
- Gently wash off all soil from the 6” planted pot
- Put a little rockwool in the well
- Add your plant and surround with clay pebbles for stability
- Next:
- Keep in a bright location.
- Add solution every 2 weeks
- Air roots will form just above the roots. This is not the same as doing a root cutting in water.
- The roots will begin growing into the solution and will continue to chase the nutrients.
- Tickle the flowers to polinate – hopefully getting fruit in 2 months.
Electricity method using Suncoze from Amazon
- This is a complete kit with nutrients, 12 growing pods, 12 domes (like little greenhouses), timer, led lighting, and water level window.
- Steps:
- Fill water level with nutrient solution
- Place 3 seeds in each pod (use the wet end of a toothpick
- Save the most robust seedling in each pod.
